The futureSince the arrival of the new seawall in August 2002 and the joint installation of the opposing pier which protects the Hercule Port waters, large scale works in view of a complete restructuring of the harbor have been undertaken.
These works began in 2004 with the creation of a central barricade in the forward port which allows the reception of large yachts across from the new yacht club.
In 2005 and 2006, the old piers at the entry of the port were torn down and the two lighthouses dismantled. These works will be entirely remodeled to house office buildings, a gas station and a dry dock. The two caissons forming the pier head were put in place during the summer of 2006.
In addition, extensive reinforcement work on the electrical power capacity has begun, at the T central of the pool, on the seawall’s platform, and the seawall itself. This will allow, as early as this Fall, for boats to no longer use their generators and thus will help in the reduction of pollution. Also in the Fall, reinforcement work on the current petrol groyne will be undertaken (October 2006 – May 2007). At the end of 2007 construction work of the new Yacht Club will begin with an estimated schedule of 30 months.
Following this, the infrastructures of the north dock will start (beginning of 2008) to form a symmetrical pendant with the south dock, which will house sales offices.
At the same time, two pontoons on the Etats-Unis quay will be created to allow the mooring of medium sized boats (30 to 40 meters).
As such, at the end of 2009 / beginning of 2010, the entirely renovated Hercule port will become one of the jewels of the Mediterranean.
