The Fontvieille port
50 years ago, Fontvieille was merely a strip of sand where the cliff fell suddenly into the sea. The creation of this new Monagasque neighborhood was linked with the economic development of the Principality. At the time of the new area’s development, a part was reserved for the creation of a boating harbor. Situated at the foot of Monaco’s cliff, Fontvieille port is undoubtedly one of the best protected ports in the region as it is protected from the East by the cliff and from swells from the South and the West by the large seawall which assures the protection of the entire Fontvieille neighborhood.
In the very heart of Fontvieille’s residential area, the port is a true Marina offering all facilities to yachts stopping over as well as to annual slip holders. This haven of peace can shelter up to 275 boats with a maximum gauge of 3 meters. Yacht passengers have all the necessary services of a well-run port at their disposal: water, electricity at each slip as well as restrooms and showers. Near the port there is a shopping mall, supermarkets, Monaco’s heliport and the Louis II stadium’s sport center.
Numerous restaurants lining the waterfront as well as the neighboring shops make the Fontvieille port a lively neighborhood where it is enjoyable to spend summer’s lovely evenings.
