The Future

Since the arrival of the new sea wall in August 2002 and the accompanying completion of the lee breakwater, which now protects the stretch of water in Hercules Port, substantial works have been undertaken in view of the complete restructuring of the port area.

Plan Port

These works began in the outer port zone in 2004 with the creation of a central bund that enables, since June 2008, large pleasure craft to be welcomed opposite the future yacht club (30 to 60 metres).
In 2005 and 2006, the former piers at the entrance to the port were levelled and the two lighthouses demolished. These structures will be entirely remodelled to be home to buildings for administrative purposes, particularly the SEPM registered office, a service station and a careening area.
The two caissons forming the pier head were put in place in summer 2006.
Furthermore, significant reinforcement work on the electric power was carried out on the T central de la piscine, on the storage area of the sea wall, and the wall itself. This will enable large leisure craft to avoid using their generators and thereby contribute to reducing pollution.
Structural work to reinforce the current fuelling facility was completed in 2007. Building work on the new Yacht Club has been undertaken with an estimated schedule of 48 months.
Finally, work on the substructures of the northern basin will shortly be underway (mid-2010) to form the symmetrical counterpart to the southern basin, which will be home to commercial premises. Concurrently, restructuring and extension work on Quai des Etats-Unis have been undertaken.
In late 2013, the fully renovated Hercules Port is therefore set to become one of the jewels of the western Mediterranean.
